smith county — The Smith Couny fire marshal tells KETK an elderly, handicapped lady was in the house when the fire began, but was able to escape after smelling smoke.
The house is destroyed.
Firefighter are currently to keep flames from spreading into the woods. They remain on scene putting out hot spots.
Smith County fire officials say the blaze has spread and is now a grass fire.
Officials tell KETK crews are responding to a structure fire in the 20,000 block of FM 2493.
Heavy smoke is visible.
