Lufkin, TX — Although Lufkin resident Christon Jeffries was found not guilty of the April rape of a paralyzed woman Wednesday, he did not walk out of the Angelina County courthouse a free man.
After the verdict was read and the jury was dismissed, Jeffries, 18, pleaded guilty to stealing the woman’s wallet. He is due back in court Thursday morning for sentencing.
During the last day-and-a-half, jurors heard prosecutor Dale Summa’s evidence on the accusation that Jeffries sexually assaulted the 37-year-old woman, who is paralyzed from the waist down. After spending one hour in the deliberation room, the jury returned a not guilty verdict on the charge of aggravated sexual assault.
