The Texas legislative session is just weeks away and gun-rights supporters have already begun asking lawmakers to pass an open-carry law.
Texas is one of six states where handguns can't be worn openly. That could soon change. But no matter if you have a concealed handgun permit or not, you need to know the law.
In Texas, a person can carry a handgun in their vehicle as long as it's concealed. And as long as you stay on Texas roadways, you don't need a handgun license. You also can keep a gun in your home and apartment without a license.
But if you plan on carrying a handgun on you or in your purse, you need a license.
So if open-carry is passed in Texas, would you need a permit at all? The answer is no and the gun must be openly visible.
