Lufkin, TX — While East Texas’ newest reservoir may be small in comparison to the long list of heavy hitting impoundments that surround it, Lake Naconiche is showing all the signs of becoming a big time bass fishery in due time.
But don’t hook up the boat or grab the rods and reels just yet, bass busters. Located in northeastern Nacogdoches County, Naconiche is so new that it is not even open to the public yet.
An official opening date for the lake has yet to be decided on by county officials. However, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department District 3D fisheries supervisor Todd Driscoll has strongly recommended that the gates remain closed to fishing, and all boat traffic, until at least Sept. 1, 2012.
