Longview Animal Control is hosting its annual Thanksgiving Pet Food Drive starting November 14 -18.
The Thanksgiving Pet Food Drive of 2011 is dedicated to the memory of Jack Cummings. Jack was a long haired border collie who was picked up by animal control as a stray and was adopted by Kevin Cummings and his family. Not long after Jacks adoption it became very clear that Jack had a very special knack of being able to make people smile. Jack soon became an ambassador for Longview Animal Control and the Environmental Health Department, teaching both children and adults of Longview about such things as pet owner responsibilities, how to avoid dog bites and how wonderful animals can truly be.
Sadly after several years of being an amazing ambassador, pet, family member and friend, the Cummings family and Animal Control had to say goodbye to Jack. So it is with fond memories and the belief that every animal should be given a chance that we dedicate this pet food drive to him.
The Thanksgiving Pet Food Drive is designed to assist the citizens of Longview who are having trouble not only providing for themselves but also for their four legged family members during these economically stressful times.
All donations will be received November 14th through November 18th at the Development Services Building which is located at 410 S. High Street, Longview.
If there is any person or persons wishing to donate but is unable to deliver their donations all they need to do is call Animal Control 903 – 237 – 1290 and our dispatcher will make arrangements for pick up.
