Chapel Hill was trailing.
Time was running out.
The Bulldogs needed to score.
So what did quarterback Avery Saenz think?
"I thought of the Rose Bowl in 2005 when Vince Young took over the game," Saenz said. "I kept telling them I was going to take over the game."
Vince Young led the Longhorns to the national championship against USC in the Rose Bowl with a dramatic fourth down, fourth quarter play.
Last Friday night in Nacogdoches, Saenz threw the game-winning touchdown pass for Chapel Hill in the final eight seconds.
"Just follow me," Saenz told his teammates. "I've got this."
Saenz was sidelined with a broken leg last September.
As he hobbled off the field, his football future was in doubt.
He had led Chapel Hill to the state championship game as a junior.
But now, his senior season was put on-hold because of a major injury.
Would he make it back?
He returned nine weeks later, and this Friday night, Avery Saenz will lead the Hill to the state title game again at Cowboys Stadium.
"I give all praise to God for giving us another chance after He's given us chances during the year," Saenz said. "I just want to thank God."
