FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - —
Fort Worth animal control officers scrambled through a North Side neighborhood after about 30 feral hogs escaped from a slaughterhouse.
The swine made their break Sunday from holding pens at Beltex/Frontier Meats, near Meacham International Airport.
Assistant City Code Compliance Director Scott Hanlan says as many as 14 were caught on slaughterhouse property, but others rampaged through nearby residential backyards and businesses.
Hanlan tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (http://bit.ly/vUnP0A ) that calls from alarmed residents stopped at dusk Sunday, and no more sightings were reported Monday. He says city animal control officers rounded up another 13, but he suspects some found their way out of the neighborhood.
He warned residents that the hogs were armed with tusks and could be dangerous if cornered.
Plant officials didn't return messages seeking comment Monday.
