LAREDO, TEXAS - A newly released police report says the Texas mother who shot her two kids and then herself inside a state welfare office had a gun while the family stayed on a beach last year.
The report released Wednesday by the Kleberg County sheriff's office says Rachelle Grimmer told a deputy in September 2010 that she carried a pistol for protection. She also showed the deputy food stamps and said they were vacationing from New York.
Laredo police say Grimmer used a .38-caliber handgun in last week's standoff at a state welfare office that had denied her food stamps. Her children, 12-year-old Ramie and 10-year-old Timothy died a few days later from their gunshot wounds.
The 2010 report indicates Grimmer behaved erratically and was suspicious of the deputy.
