Lufkin, TX — The U.S. Postal Service has scheduled a town hall meeting next week to discuss its proposal to move incoming mail processing operations from the Lufkin Customer Service Mail Processing Center to the Beaumont Processing and Distribution Center. The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Jan. 4 in the council chambers at Lufkin City Hall, 300 E. Shepherd Ave.
With economic conditions and continuing electronic diversion causing deep declines in mail volume, postal service officials said there is an excess of employees and equipment in its mail processing operations.
An ongoing study at the Lufkin facility will determine the feasibility to consolidate operations to reduce cost. USPS officials in September proposed the consolidation, relocation or closure of more than half of its mail processing network.
