TYLER - Some kids across East Texas will have a merrier christmas this year thanks to a group of middle school students.
12 kids from Hubbard Middle School in Tyler raised three-thousand dollars for Toys for Tots.
Teachers tell us, they did this by putting together a walk-a-thon and accepting donations from other students.
And Thursday, they took that money and spent it on toys at Walmart.
Hubbard Middle School Teacher Denise Martin says, "This is an invaluable lesson for these kids. They can become community leaders and give back to the community. They've definitely learned that lesson this year."
8th Grade Participant Casey says, "it's important. It was fun. We're glad to help kids have a good Christmas."
This is the third year for the event.
On Friday, the kids will drop off the toys at the Tyler Fire Department.
