MIDLAND, TEXAS - Investigators say a West Texas man has died after being shot by officers during a three-county chase.
Authorities say Earney Lee Maker Jr. of Midland died Sunday at a hospital after a chase through Midland and Ector counties ended in Andrews County.
Maker was on probation after pleading guilty in November over a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend.
Midland police were dispatched to a home on a report of a man possibly being suicidal.
Department of Public Safety Trooper John Barton says officers believed Maker was armed when they located him nearby in his truck, but he drove away.
Maker was shot when he allegedly attempted to strike an Andrews police officer and his truck hit a DPS vehicle.
The Midland Reporter-Telegram reports a weapon was recovered from Maker's truck.
