smith county — KETK has learned 26-year old Michael Paz, of Kilgore, was the person killed in today's fatal wreck on Highway 31 East.
Services will be held at the Rader Funeral Home. No date has been set.
According to Smith County Pct. 4 Judge Shamburger, the fatal victim was traveling west on Highway 31 from Kilgore to Tyler. The man was passing a car when he realized he wasn't going to make the pass, so he tried to get back into his lane, but overcorrected and clipped a car, sending him head-on into a Jeep.
Judge Mitch Shamburger pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
Shamburger tells KETK, this is the third wreck in the last 24 hours on Highway 31 caused by high speeds.
It is unknown if alcohol is involved in the wreck. A toxicology report has been ordered.
The body has been sent to the Rader funeral home in Kilgore.
Eastbound lanes have re-opened.
Officials have confirmed at least one person has died in the wreck on Highway 31 East between Kilgore and Tyler.
The victim has been identified as a 26-year old male from Kilgore. His name has not been released.
Witness tell KETK, one of the drivers caused the wreck by weaving in and out of traffic until colliding head-on with another vehicle.
The vehicles involved are a Jeep and a sedan.
There are serious injuries reported. The jaws of life are being used.

KETK crews on scene report that Eastbound traffic is shut down while officials work the scene. Westbound lanes are open.
