Public Education Committee will hear testimony Monday
Austin — The Associated Press is reporting; today Texas lawmakers are checking on the implementation of the new STAAR standardized test for public school children.
The Public Education Committee will hear testimony today from school officials and teachers about how the new test is being implemented and its impact on schools.
STAAR stands for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness and replaced the TAKS test starting this year.
In addition to tracking student performance in English, math, science for students the 3rd through 8th grades, the tests will serve as end of semester exams for high school students.
Lawmakers also want to hear about any recommended changes and make sure schools do not overly rely on the test.
