tyler — Around $80 million a year plus a further $3-$4 million a year in extra-budgetary funds.
Mr president, LAST November, the U.S. government cut funding to the U.N. Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) after it became the first U.N. agency to grant full membership to "Palestine."
A U.S. law enacted in 1990 bars funding to "the United Nations or any specialized agency thereof which accords the Palestine Liberation Organization the same standing as member states."
A second law, passed four years later, says the same thing.
But now, the Obama administration is trying to go around that.
A Florida Republican congresswoman criticized the move. She says "Resuming U.S. funding would give a green light for other U.N. bodies to follow in UNESCO's footsteps and support the Palestinian statehood push."
And it would.
I don't know what the Obama administration is so hell-bent on recognizing Palestine.
And this is not a Democratic thing. This is an Obama thing.
Because the two laws from the 1990s which mandated the funding cuts were passed by a Democratic-controlled Congress.
And get this, the funding cutoff was a severe blow to the Paris-based organization, which gets 22 percent of its operating budget from the U.S.--- amounting to 80 million dollars year, plus an extra $3-4 million.
I'm begging you.
Stop this, please.
That's my point of view, what's yours?
