A Georgia woman was arrested Monday morning on Interstate 20 after troopers found more than 40 pounds of cocaine.
Department of Public Safety officials arrested Vickie Ann Watts, 38, of Statesboro, Ga. at about 8:45 a.m. Monday after stopping her for a traffic violation.
Officials said Watts was charged with possession of a controlled substance and marijuana. Her passenger, 52-year-old Herman Rainey, of Newark, N.J., was also arrested for possession of marijuana.
Trooper Jacob Muehlstein said Watts appeared to be nervous during the traffic stop and the details about why she was traveling through Texas were suspicious.
Muehlstein said Rainey also appeared to be nervous during the traffic stop.
After the two suspects gave the trooper consent to search their vehicle, Muehlstein found an area on the vehicle that he said “appeared suspicious and could be a space to conceal contraband,” he said in the arrest report.
