Up 5.7 percent for the month
Lufkin — The Lufkin Daily News reports: According to a state comptroller report released Wednesday, Lufkin experienced a monthly increase in year-to-year sales tax revenue in February.
Lufkin showed an increase of about 5.7 percent, collecting $868,035 compared to $821,051 collected in February 2011. Lufkin has collected $3,367,663 so far this year, up about 4.2 percent from the $3,231,270 collected in the same period in 2011.
“It’s been a very positive trend. I think we’ve added some jobs at Lufkin Industries, Lockeed Martin and some of the other industries that are hiring,” City Manager Paul Parker said.
