JACKSONVILLE — 40 people -- most in their late 20s are in Jacksonville's "South Side" street gang.
Jacksonville Police say they've been around for years and they're responbile for various thefts, burglaries and even shootings.
But this time, they got some of them for selling drugs and guns.
Detective James Oden tells KETK that this investigation started back in September.
Jacksonville Police got with the FBI to begin investigating some of the members they believed to be selling narcotics like meth and cocaine...as well as firemarms.
So they got a plan together, used surveilance and confidential informants...and they were able to purchase quite a bit of drugs and guns from these guys.
Last week, authorities were able to arrest 5 of the "South Side" members they knew were affiliated with the activities.
"Hopefully at some point we'll be able to indict a few more people involved in this case. And maybe it'll be an opportunity to really hurt this gang and diminish their influence on this community," Oden said.
Detective Oden says the 5 members they busted are not in the Cherokee County Jail -- they're in the custody of U.S. Marshals.
The case will be prosecuted on a Federal level.
