Longview prayer vigil to honor slain Florida teen

Longview, TX — Community members will gather at 7:30 tonight at Heritage Plaza for a prayer vigil in memory of a Florida teen allegedly gunned down by a neighborhood watch captain.

Trayvon Martin, 17, was killed this past month in Sanford, Fla.

Longview Councilwoman Kasha Williams said although Martin was killed in Florida, the tragedy affects the nation.

“Whenever something like this happens, that is a national tragedy; it has nothing to do with literal location,” Williams said. “It affects all of us. It’s not about geography or distance. It’s about community.
