GREGG COUNTY - East Texas Regional Airport is getting a facelift and officials say they were approached by FAA to apply for federal stimulus funds to cover those costs.
Airport Manager, Virginia Hall said, "We chose projects that we could get the engineering done quickly."
The projects include expanding terminal parking lots and entrance roads, reconstructing one taxiway and getting rid of another.
Hall said, "Its more of a safety concern because that taxiway feeds directly into the intersection of two runways."
Theses projects will cost about $3.4 million and more than $200,000 of that is engineering costs, that would have to be paid up front before federal funds are applied.
Hall said, "The county will cover engineering cost to do design engineering on projects and get them ready to bid."
She said, "this money would come from a stimulus package. They're trying to really stimulate the economy by creating jobs in construction areas and trying to get infrastructure projects done throughout the nation and all the airports."
Airport officials say, they must have project designs in by March or April in order to qualify for the federal funds.
