Henderson, TX — Residents of the Church Hill community in Rusk County moved another step closer to obtaining water service Monday.
The Rusk County Commissioners Court designated Judge Joel Hale as the Fair Housing Officer for the county. That is a requirement for the project to receive funding from the Texas Community Development Block Grant program funding the project to pipe water to the area.
About 65 households in the unincorporated area in the northeastern part of Rusk County have long relied on well water for their residential water needs. The well water varies in quality and quantity. In some neighborhoods, five or six families are drawing water from one well, and there is not enough pressure for more than one person to take a shower or do a load of laundry at a time.
The project is building a system to bring water from nearby Henderson.
“These people are in dire need and I’m hoping we can move as fast as possible on this project, but these things to take time,” said Pct. 2 Commissioner Mike Pepper.
