Longview, TX — Longview VFW Post 4002 — one of the oldest and once one of the largest VFW posts in Texas — may close its doors Thursday, forced to surrender its charter.
The problem isn’t membership.
With 476 members, Longview Post 4002, at 401 Ambassador Row, is still considered one of the largest in the state.
“The problem is, we don’t have enough members who want to serve,” said former Post Commander Joe Crenshaw.
“Members on paper and active members who want to serve are two different things,” said the aging Korean War veteran, who served three terms as VFW Post 4002 commander.
