Longview Parks and Recreation Department will host 54 Boys Baseball teams from Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, who will compete at Three Complexes for a Super Series Qualifier Baseball Tournament on Saturday, April 14 – Sunday, April 15. Approximately 700 players will compete in Longview for 8 U, 9 U, 10 U, 11 U, 12 U, 13 U and 14 U Division Titles. Games will be played at the Spring Hill Park, Lear Park Softball and Lear Park Baseball Complexes in Longview. The tournament will feature an estimated 101 total games over the 2 days.
The 54 teams come from as far west as Garland, as far south to Lufkin, and north as Doddridge, Arkansas, and as far as east as West Monroe, Louisiana. Brad Cooper and Dave Owens will serve as Tournament Directors. The tournament was sanctioned by Mark Mathew, President of Super Series Baseball, National Office, in Mesa, Arizona.
Tournament play gets under way Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. in all divisions. The championship for the 8 U Coach Pitch will be Saturday Evening and all other championship games will be played Sunday Evening.
In addition, the Greater Longview Soccer Association (GLSA) will host the Annual Mike Mendicello Soccer Tournament at the Lear Park Soccer Complex this weekend. The soccer Tournament will start Friday evening, April 13, with Championship games to be held Sunday afternoon, April 15. A total of 88 Girls and Boys teams with an estimated 1200 players will participate.
Between the two tournaments, 142 Youth Teams (8 U-14 U) with approximately 7,700 players and fans will be playing or attending the soccer and baseball youth tournaments this weekend. This is the second time this year that 100 plus youth teams have participated in a tournament weekend in Longview. Earlier this year, 112 youth baseball and basketball teams played on the weekend of March 17 and 18.
