Tyler, TX (KETK) —
Homebase for the Neches River Sweep.was the Chandler River Park on Highway 31, where volunteers could grad their gloves and trashbags and get started cleaning the area.
The first 72 people to show up and start picking up trash got a free t-shirt, and for every filled bag of trash the brought back from the shore, they received a raffle ticket to win some prizes.
The city of Chandler provided dumpsters, while trashbags and gloves were handed out to all the volunteers.
Organizers tell KETK that last year, they hauled out over 80 bags of trash, providing a cleaner environment for a very popular family east texas fishing spot.
And chief organizer Anthony Rivera says, he hopes this will not only cleanup the area for today, but set an example for the community.
