HUNSTVILLE — Beunka Adams, the East Texas man convicted of killing Kenneth Vandever during a Rusk gas station robbery back in 2002, will be put to death by lethal injection, Thursday night, a little after 6:00 p.m.
Adams has been sitting on death row for nearly a decade and was also convicted of shooting and abducting two women during the robbery. One of the women was raped, both survived.
Adams' execution comes after a stay was granted by U.S. District Judge Michael Schneider on Monday, which was then followed with an appeal by Texas attorneys on Tuesday and then on Wednesday, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lifting the stay, following through with the original execution date and time.
Adams claimed poor legal representation.
Adams will be the fifth death row inmate in Texas this year to be executed and another is scheduled to die later this week.
