Ricklan Holmes was All-East Texas for John Tyler back in 1997.
He led the Lions to the state semifinals his senior season.
He went from running back in high school to defensive back in college.
He played for Oklahoma State and he spent two and a half seasons with the Patriots.
He played for Bill Belichick in New England, Les Miles at Oklahoma State and Allen Wilson at John Tyler.
Holmes has been an assistant at JT for the last five years.
He was the wide receivers coach and the head coach of the John Tyler junior varsity.
He's been running the high school program since Dereck Rush resigned last month to take a job in Conroe and Coach Rush recommended Ricklan Holmes to replace him.
"It's a welcome home just like it was in 2007," Holmes told KETK. "I was thankful for being back home and coaching at my alma mater."
"Now I'm even more blessed to be the head coach," Holmes aded.
"You always want to go back home," TISD Athletic Director Rod Kaspar said. "Sometimes when you get there it's not as good as you think it's going to be."
"But we've got all the confidence in Coach Holmes to be successful," Kaspar added. "I think we're going to have a good year coming up."
