The United States Department of Justice and Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona have been at each others throats for years now.
The sticking point--- Sheriff Joe is against illegal immigrants coming into in our country--- imagine that. He has looked up the word illegal and knows what it means. The Obama justice department seems to not have a lot of problem with illegals.
They have have accused Sheriff Arpaio of racial profiling.
The sheriff makes a good point that most illegals look like folks from Mexico, so that is who they stop and question.
Makes sense.
The Justice Department also says Sheriff Joe's deputies are mean to people they stop and question and call them bad names.
Sheriff Joe says it ain't so.
More back and forth.
The DOJ finally says we'll leave you alone down there in the state and county in which you were elected if you'll let us send a federal overseer to basically spy on you.
Sheriff Joe says no.
I mean do you run your department or not?
I moderated a Smith Country forum last night, and one thing that kept coming up over and over again is that once someone is elected by the people, you can't tell them what to do.
The people will make that choice at the ballot box next time.
What this administration is trying to do is do an end run on someone they don't like and shut them up.
I would not want someone to spy on me and tell me what to do either.
Sheriff Arpaio's final word about the subject is to Attorney General Eric Holder who is pushing all this.
"Clean your own house, Eric Holder, before you come trying to clean mine,"
That makes sense to me.What about you?
That's my point of view, what's yours?
