56-year-old business owner and incumbent mayor Jay Dean was challenged this time around by Longivew customer service attendent Tammy Barnes. She has never held elected office before.

Also, in Rusk, a few years ago, the voters decided to let beer and wine be sold in the city. This year came the vote to allow liquor to be legally sold.
It passed with around 250 votes in favor and around 160 against.

And one of the most talked about items in East Texas -- the $25 million Tyler Junior College bond election to build a new Nursing and Allied Health facility
And the bond passed with about 54% of the vote.
