Longview, TX — LeTourneau University plans to launch a new bachelor’s degree program in communication to focus on integrated media management, beginning Fall 2012. The program is pending approval from the Council of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The new degree is designed to teach students to manage ideas, from creation to composition to communication, in a variety of media formats including print, video, social media, and internet. Graduates could use this degree for work in advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations or entertainment and media.
This interdisciplinary degree rests on a solid foundation of writing and communications courses, adding in business courses such as principles of management, marketing, advertising, public relations and project management. Visual media courses will provide overview and skills development in the Adobe Design Suite, particularly Photoshop.
“Every industry needs people who are proficient at communication,” said Dr. Larry Frazier, LETU’s dean of Arts and Sciences. “We need individuals who can manage ideas from creation to composition in a variety of media formats, whether in print, on the web or in video, film, or television productions. A student coming to LeTourneau University will gain a strong foundation in communication and design, and can use elective courses wisely to gain a working knowledge of engineering, aeronautical science, or business, that person would be very well-positioned to enter the job market.”
