LETU Engineering student top finalist in national competition

Longview, TX — LeTourneau University engineering freshman mechanical engineering major Alexandria Dale of Fort White, Fla. was named a top 10 finalist in the 2012 Extreme Redesign 3D Printing Challenge, a global contest that encourages students to submit their original computer-aided design (CAD) of a 3D model. Her model was an improved, aesthetically pleasing design of an everyday baby rattle.

For being chosen in the top 10 in her category, Dale will receive her design in the form of a plastic model printed by a Dimension 3D printer, along with $50 VISA gift card. Dimension is a brand of 3D printers made by Stratasys, Inc. The printer builds models layer by layer using a plastic that is one of the most widely used thermoplastics in today’s injection-molded products. This kind of 3D printing allows users a low-cost way to evaluate design concepts and test models for form, fit and function.
