Lufkin, TX — Lufkin school district officials are speaking out after a political advertisement accused the Lufkin school board of raising taxes to fund a raise for district Superintendent Roy Knight.
The ad, approved and mailed out by current state Rep. Marva Beck’s campaign, claimed that her opponent, current LISD board president Trent Ashby, voted to raise taxes twice in his five years on the school board.
Knight said the flyer was part of a smear campaign by Beck, and that Ashby’s vote of approval was for a bond sales hike that over 70 percent of the school district’s voters had already approved.
