tyler — Four artists whose work has been deemed as the best in exhibits held in the gallery thus far in 2012 will have their work featured at the upcoming “Best in Show” exhibit at Gallery Main Street.
The artists will be honored at an opening reception set for Thursday, May 31, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the gallery at 110 W. Erwin. The reception is free and open to the public to attend.
Featured artists and the shows they won are: Derrick White, Fine Art of the Found Object; Dolph Miller, Simply Black and White; Diane Frossard, The Graphic Impulse, and Betty Northcutt: From the Inside.
“This exhibit will feature several works by each of these four outstanding artists,” said Beverly Abell, department leader for the City of Tyler Main Street Department. “This exhibit represents a wide variety of styles and media, and we are proud to share the work of these artists with the public.”
Best in Show is awarded to one artist at the opening of each Gallery Main Street exhibit. When an exhibit is organized, a call to artists is issued, and a prospectus is posted to the gallery and downtown arts website, www.downtowntylerarts.com . Artists submit digital images of their work. Those images, stripped of identifying factors, are sent to a jury of professional artists who score each work. The top-scoring pieces are accepted for the exhibit, and the artwork that scores the highest is named Best in Show.
The “Best in Show” exhibit will run through June 25. Admission to the gallery is free. The public is invited to view the exhibit during the gallery’s hours, which are Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays noon to 4 p.m.
The next exhibit will be “Macro: The Art is in the Details,” which will open on June 28 and run through Aug. 6.
