SMITH COUNTY - All eyes Tuesday night were on election results. With nearly 28,000 voters turning out in Smith County alone, it was no surprise for many to see at least a few runoffs.
One of the biggest races to move into a runoff for folks in Smith County, was the Smith County sheriff's race.
Moving Chief Deputy Bobby Garmon, and Donn Rust out of the running and pushing Chris Green and Larry Smith into a runoff. So now that we know another vote is set to take place on july 31st, whose eligible to participate?
Karen Nelson, with the Smith County Elections Office, tells KETK, "For the republican primary runoff any who voted republican in the primary is eligible and anyone who did not vote in either primary is also eligible to vote in the republican runoff."
So technically that leaves one group that won't be able to vote.
Nelson says, "The only people that would be ineligible to vote in the runoff for republican would be anybody that voted democrat in the primary or attended the democratic county convention."
So to make it clear, according to officials republicans can vote again, democrats can't, and if you haven't voted at all, democrat or republican you can vote in the runoff.
