Tyler — Update: Sheriff JB Smith tells KETK the deputy who was struck was Daniel Leon, a 13-year veteran of SCSO. Leon is in fair condition at ETMC in Tyler.
Original Report:
A Smith County Sheriff's deputy was struck by an SUV Thursday night and seriously injured, according to Smith County DPS.
The deputy was directing traffic at the Tyler Metro Church on Highway 110 South near Tyler when he was struck by the SUV.
He's currently hospitalized at ETMC in Tyler. His injuries are described as serious.
The driver of the SUV was not ticketed.
