Lufkin, Texas — Blinding an Lufkin man in one eye will cost a Dallas man five months in prison and $60,000 in restitution in connection with a 2002 shooting incident.
Juan Carlos Garcia, 33, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on a charge of aggravated assault Monday morning but will likely serve five months because of a deal worked out by his attorney Al Charanza for shock probation. Shock probation is designed to give the offender a taste of prison life to shock them into good behavior.
Before being taken to jail, Garcia gave the victim $10,000 in restitution and has agreed to pay another $50,000 during the course of his nine-and-a-half-year parole, Charanza said.
