It's the anniversary of one of America's greatest days of sacrifice, D-Day.
68 years ago today, Allied forces launched an attack by air and by sea, storming the beaches of Normandy in German-occupied France.
160,000 Allied troops landed on the heavily-fortified coastline with the support of 13,000 aircraft and 5,000 ships.
9,000 Allied soldiers were killed or wounded by the end of the day.
The invasion gave Allied troops a foothold in France and eventually turned the tide of World War II.
