Lufkin, Texas — In what could be a sign of an improving economic climate, Lufkin and Angelina County saw monthly increases in year-to-year sales tax revenue in May, according to a state comptroller report released Wednesday.
Lufkin showed an increase of about 5.4 percent, collecting $936,172 compared to $888,258 collected in May 2011. Lufkin has collected $6,534,620 so far this year, up about 4.9 percent from the $6,227,555 collected in the same period in 2011.
