EAST TEXAS — The East Texas Food Bank is up for voting TODAY, June 19th , in Toyota's "100 Cars for Good" program.
Toyota is giving away 100 cars to nonprofits, based on the public's vote.
According to the program's website -- each day for 100 days, online voters will choose which of five nonprofits will take home a new set of wheels. The organization who receives the most votes at the end of the day takes home a brand new Toyota.
The East Texas Food Bank was one of the 500 finalists selected. They, along with 4 other other organizations, are up for voting from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on June 19th.
Whichver organization receives the most votes will get a brand new vehicle to add to their fleet.
The East Texas Food Bank's volunteers and staff work tirelessly and compassionately to end hunger across the 26 counties of East Texas. The organization says the vehicle would be used by key staff members, including their Agency Services Representatives, who serve as liaisons between the East Texas Food Bank and their network of partner agencies; the Child Hunger Coordinator, who administers their targeted child hunger programs and frequently speaks at schools and to various community groups on issues of child hunger; the Nutrition Educator, who teaches healthy eating and food-budgeting skills to low-income families; and their Outreach Specialists, who help eligible East Texans register for benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Whether it is to a food pantry, soup kitchen, homeless shelter, park, apartment complex or home – wherever this Toyota vehicle travels, the East Texas Food Bank says "help and hope will follow".
