JACKSONVILLE — Back in May, we reported that all Lon Morris employees except for 11 core staff members were furloughed until further notice.
June 15th was the day the consultants were supposed to make a decision on what to do about the college.
That was last Friday.
So today, we received word employees would be meeting there at the administration building at 3.
The doors were locked...from all sides.
A security officer came out and confirmed with us that an employee meeting was going on.
When employees began walking out...'mum' was still the word for most...but those that did speak with us gave us some conflicting reports.
Here there are:
Some said that not much happened in the meeting and the school still hasn't decided what to do in the fall.
But one source said that everyone had been officially fired...except for the 11 remaining staff members...and the school will only be having online classes in the fall...it won't open up like normal.
It's several people now that have told KETK that -- that the school won't be opening back up traditionally in the fall...one source saying the school had gone bankrupt...and another source saying that several big name schools were looking at purchasing Lon Morris as a satellite campus.
So, the bottom line is...we still don't know for sure what's really going on until the consulting firm releases something.
But interestingly enough, the security officer told us everything they release has to go through their lawyers now...
Draw from that what you will.
KETK was the only tv station down there at the meeting, so stick with us for the latest updates on this...on air, as well as here on our website.
