Longview, TX — Installation of a continuous turn lane on U.S. 80 from Fisher Road to Texas 42 leads a group of three local transportation projects to be funded with $3.8 million allocated to the Longview Metropolitan Planning Organization.
The funding, made available from an unexpected $2 billion of Texas Transportation Commission money, was divided between communities across the state for road projects.
“They came in under budget with some state projects,” Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt said of the commission. “So, they bundled it up and spread it around the state with the MPOs that have got projects ready to go.”
After Thursday’s final public meeting to determine what projects would most benefit the area, Longview’s MPO technical committee approved three.
The top-priority U.S. 80 widening project has been in the planning stages for more than 10 years, and was selected because of safety issues, officials said.
