TYLER — I spent 5 years in the beautiful Pacific Northwest..and this does not surprise me.
This is from the Portland Oregonian newspaper.
An Oregon town has reportedly canceled its annual fireworks show out of concern the Fourth of July pyrotechnics will scare sea birds roosting nearby.
Town officials in Depoe Bay have announced the cancelation of the annual pre-Independence Day fireworks show on July 3 following pressure from federal wildlife managers who said the noise disrupts sea birds in the area.
Of course the ruling ticked off business owner there because the celebration bring out a lot of people who usually spend money.
But then again, when has this federal government ever cared about people driving the country with small business.
Instead they take the side of a bunch of tree huggers worries about a bird scared off.
One of my best friends has property there. He loves the birds.
They came back from last year. They are birds.
What does the phrase bird-brained mean?
The shows ran smoothly for two decades.
Then, in 2010, a Depoe Bay resident contacted the federal wildlife service and reported seeing seabirds nesting at Pirates Cove take flight during the fireworks.
The feds ran a study and have found these birds are frightened and sometimes leave their nest and eggs.
I lived up there during the spotted owl fiasco. I bought one one of the bumper stickers that said "I love the spotted owls, they are delicious."
This is just as dumb.
That's my point of view, what's yours?
