Longview, TX — Contractors, architects and others who are involved in building or remodeling homes and businesses in the Longview area will get a chance to learn more about new laws governing accessibility next week.
The seminar is sponsored by the East Texas Center for Independent Living, the East Texas Builders Association and the East Texas Aging & Disability Resource Center.
“Because of the new Title II and Title III amendments to the Americans With Disabilities Act, which went into effect in March, we wanted to focus this seminar primarily on building codes and specifically invite people associated with those professions,” said Karen Holt, outreach coordinator for East Texas Center for Independent Living.
More than 50 million Americans have disabilities, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. In addition, about 71.5 million baby boomers will be older than 65 by 2030.
