Governor Rick Perry has joined Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, Texas Alliance for Life, the NRA, and other conservative leaders by endorsing State Representative Chuck Hopson in the Republican Primary runoff.
“Chuck Hopson is a proven conservative leader who delivers results for East Texas,” said Perry. “As a local pharmacist, Chuck has been on the front lines fighting Obamacare. In the Texas Capitol, Chuck is a trusted conservative ally in the fight for lower taxes and job creation. I am proud to endorse Chuck Hopson in this election and look forward to continuing our work together.”
Last session, Hopson worked with Governor Perry to help balance the state budget without raising taxes and pass the state’s new voter ID law. Hopson also applauded Perry’s ‘Texas Budget Compact’ earlier this year which calls for a balanced budget without raising taxes again next session.
“Governor Perry and I share the same conservative values and I am proud to have his support in the runoff,” said Hopson. “The Governor knows he can count on me to be a trusted ally when it comes to keeping taxes low, job creation, and fighting the Obama administration’s intrusion into our daily lives.”
A fourth generation East Texan and local pharmacist, Rep. Hopson has also served on his local School Board and City Council. He and his wife Billie, a former public school educator and counselor for more than thirty years and now in private practice, have three grown children and seven grandchildren. They are active members of the First United Methodist Church where he has served as a Sunday School teacher.
Hopson came in first in the May 29th Republican Primary for District 11 which includes Cherokee, Nacogdoches and Rusk counties. Early voting in the runoff begins Monday, July 23rd and continues through Friday, July 27th. Election Day is Tuesday, July 31st.
