Lufkin, tx — A domestic disturbance turned violent when a Lufkin woman stabbed her husband in the shoulder Sunday morning.
At around 5:30 a.m., Lufkin police first learned of the incident when they were dispatched to a local hospital's emergency room and found Jose Zapata, 28, of Lufkin, with a stab wound. He told officers that his wife, Vanessa Zapata, 30, had attacked him with a knife at their house on the 500 block of S. Third Street.
According to Jose, the two began arguing that morning when he confronted her about not being at home. The argument escalated when his wife started punching him in the face. Jose allegedly grabbed her and tried to defend himself, but his wife picked up a sharp object, possibly a knife, and stabbed him in back left shoulder area. He also received a cut to his left front chest.
Lufkin officers had been dispatched to their address prior to this call due to a disturbance. At that time, patrolmen made contact with Vanessa on scene who was yelling and screaming. She was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest and was taken to the Angelina County Jail on the warrant. Authorities on scene were not aware of the later reported stabbing of her husband at that time.
While still in custody at the jail, Vanessa was also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon – family violence.
