Lufkin ,Tx — The Zavalla City Council may have violated the Texas Open Meetings Act when it met in closed executive session to discuss the municipal judge position during a special called meeting last week, according to a Freedom of Information attorney.
After voting in open session on a matter regarding the city’s bank accounts last Thursday night, the Zavalla council adjourned into closed session to consider two items on the agenda. Those included hiring an attorney to represent the city in an employment claim and authorizing the mayor to sign an engagement letter; and discussing the evaluation and renewing of a contract for municipal judge.
