Jacksonville, TX — A historic church in Jacksonville struggles to stay open. After 165 years of serving the community... they are losing church members.
It has been pretty quiet on Sunday's at the Cove Springs Methodist Church, and the church needs the community's support.
The cove springs methodist church has been active for 156 years.
George W. Powell, Treasurer of the church, has been a member for 3 years and his family have been members of 30 years.
This church has been struggling to stay open since Pastor Dan Middleton who was fighting cancer had past away.. a little over a month ago. He was preacher for 34 years.
The Powell family are taking care of the church finances. George says, without enough members, there are not enough donations.
Members who host barbeque's and garage sales to raise money for the church are no longer members.
Every day... before George walks out the door of the church, he says to himself..."Life isn't about waiting for the storm to past, it's about learning how to dance in the rain."
The Powell family are doing everything they can to keep the church open, they need members and donations.
George says, it's no for him, it's for God.
