Gilmer, Tx — Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd on Monday released the name of a 35-year-old Longview man who died after being stabbed in the city of East Mountain on July 28.
Byrd identified him as Billy Gene Stewart. A suspect in the stabbing, 46-year-old James Nathaniel Nash of East Mountain, remains jailed on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but the matter will be presented to the county grand jury as a murder case, Byrd said.
The assault charge was filed before Stewart died in the emergency room at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, said authorities.
