TYLER, TX (KETK) - — This weekend is national homeless animals weekend, and a local water park did its part to help out one east Texas animal foundation, working to raise funds to build it's own shelter.
A portion of all the ticket sales today at the Waterpark at the Villages in Flint went directly to the SPCA of East Texas, money that will go directly to providing a home for local animals, that otherwise will continue to wander the streets in smith county.
The SPCA of East Texas has already purchased some property just outside of Tyler, now they just need money for the building.
And along with the money from ticket sales today, the organization also sold raffle tickets, as well as taking straight donations for the shelter.
The SPCA and the water park have been discussing having a fundraiser such as this for nearly a year, and in honor of this weekend, they both felt this would be the best time.
Now most of the people walking into the park were not aware of the fundraiser, but volunteers say that even if no one made additional donations, making people aware of their cause is just as beneficial.
