Officials with Pilgrim’s Pride and Titus Regional Medical Center on Monday said there were no additional injuries reported from an ammonia leak at one of Pilgrim’s Mount Pleasant facilities on Friday.
Hospital spokeswoman Shannon Norfleet said “everyone we saw were treated and released that day with no serious injuries or hospitalizations.” She said there were no related hospital visits from the incident over the weekend.
Pilgrim’s Pride spokeswoman Margaret McDonald said operations were normal Monday just as they had been by late Friday afternoon when production resumed at the prepared foods plant. About 780 workers were evacuated after a leak in a pipe carrying ammonia ruptured.
She said the incident happened when contract workers were performing a maintenance procedure on the roof.
