This weeks it's the Democrats who get a chance to have their convention and make speeches.
I've been following politics ever since I was 19 year old and can tell you basically what each side is going to say.
This, I don't like.
The Dems have an ad running right now saying we all belong to different churches and clubs and on and on, but the one thing we all share is government.
In fact, the exact words are "the government is the only thing we all belong to."
Excuse me, I don't belong to the government. The government sure doesn't belong to me because if it did, I sure would fix a lot of things.
The people of the United States are the government.
Let me get more specific. In my mind, the contributing people are the government. I guess this is the fundamental disconnect for me. I was raised to be self-sufficient.
Did have help from my parents? You bet i did. But, I have never felt one way or the other about the government.
I need the government to raise an army, fix and build roads, but for the most part, I just want it to stay out of the way.
I don't drive by the the state capitol in Austin or Washington D.C. and get a tingle up my leg.
If anything, I always drive by and wonder "does it have to be that big?"
I didn't grow up in privilege. In fact, my parents were probable the first to reach middle class.
They did it by working at jobs and paying their way. That's what they taught me.
I don't see the government as evil, but I don't see us all together holding hands and singing under the capitol rotunda tower.
I just want my army, roads and maybe one day I'll see a bit of the Social Security I've been paying into.
That's my point of view whats yours?
