tyler, tx — Keep Tyler Beautiful and the City’s Parks and Recreation Department are joining forces with members of Tyler Junior College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, Alpha Omicron Chapter, to clean up the Windsor Grove Nature Park.
Volunteers from the two groups will be working to clean up the park located at 415 S. Lyons, just west of the East Texas State Fair Grounds, at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 and again on Sunday, Sept. 16.
This is just the first step in a planned facelift for this park spearheaded by PTK Vice President of Leadership Kyle McDougal and the City of Tyler Parks Department. McDougal is working with the Parks Department on a project that he hopes will make the nature park more user-friendly.
“The Alpha Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and I are very excited to join forces with the City of Tyler and Keep Tyler Beautiful on this project,” McDougal said. “Our goal is for the park to appeal to everyone in the community in a positive manner and still maintain a natural setting.”
In addition to the clean-up, McDougal said that TJC’s Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) will be offering a sunrise service led by Dr. Mark Jones in the park both dates for any of the volunteers who wish to attend.
Keep Tyler Beautiful Board Chair Phyllis Carlyle said that the board is wholeheartedly behind the effort and enthusiastic about their partnership.
“We are glad to have the opportunity to work with these students as they give back to the Tyler community,” Carlyle said. “Keep Tyler Beautiful hopes that projects like this will show others that it doesn’t take a lot of effort or time to make a difference.”
McDougal is working with local businesses and individuals to gather funding and donated materials for the project. He turned to Keep Tyler Beautiful for help with the initial cleanup in preparation for more improvements later.
”It is these types of partnerships, with passionate and enthusiastic individuals, that really make a difference in our community,” said Stephanie Rollings, director of Parks and Recreation.
